STERLING CIS, HELPING TO MAKE THE WORKPLACE SAFER
Sterling CIS commitment
Here at Sterling CIS we take both our duties and responsibilities very seriously. The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 states that as an employer, we must do all that is deemed "reasonably practicable" to ensure the health and safety of our sub-contractors. To assist us in complying with this and other relevant legislation we have designed a specific Health and Safety Management System.
At Sterling CIS, one of our main priorities is to ensure that all sub-contractors are fully covered. This not only gives you peace of mind, but also the agency you are sub-contracted to. We provide all insurances required for sub-contractors to work abroad, offshore*, onshore and to cover a wide range of job specifications. All we ask is that our Compliance Department are notified prior to an assignment commencing, or assignments which take you abroad.
As a Sterling CIS sub-contractor you also benefit from Personal Accident, Employers Liability and Public Liability insurance at no extra charge.
Sterling CIS provides all its sub-contractors with:
- A Health and Safety guidance handbook
- A 24/7 help-line 0870 754 1166, which gives you advice and guidance on any health and safety matter you may be faced with in your workplace
The Sterling CIS health and safety management system
The management system has been designed to ensure Sterling CIS sub-contractors are operating in safe and healthy working environments. We provide our sub-contractors with information and instruction on a range of health and safety issues. We also offer competent advice on any health and safety related matter and a basic level of supervision regarding the health and safety provisions of our sub-contractors’ individual workplaces.
Our Health and Safety Management system is under constant review to ensure it continues to provide an efficient means of managing the health and safety of our sub-contractors. If you would like to know more about this or any other aspect of our health and safety management please do not hesitate to contact our Compliance Department on 0870 754 1111
Health and safety guidebook
All sub-contractors are issued with a copy of the Sterling CIS Health and Safety guidebook. This guidebook has been specifically designed with Sterling CIS in mind and contains detailed information regarding the health and safety issues associated to working activities and environments.

Helpline
While the guidance provides our sub-contractors with a point of reference for detailed information and instruction regarding health and safety, we understand that there is no substitute for competent one to one advice. With this in mind, we have developed a service to ensure if our sub-contractors need advice and guidance they can get it. The Sterling CIS Health and Safety advice line can be accessed by all sub-contractors 24 hrs a day, seven days a week for advice, guidance and assistance on any health and safety related issue.
The handbook and helpline allow us to provide our sub-contractors with the information they need on basic health and safety as well as advice and guidance on any day to day issues which may arise. To accompany this process of information and instruction we have also identified a means to provide a basic level of supervision to our sub-contractors individual working environments. This supervision takes the form of regular surveys, circulated to our sub-contractors at periodic intervals. The questionnaires are designed to gain an insight into the health and safety provisions present within their individual working environments.
